    Rigid couplings from norelem

Rigid couplings are often employed when two aligned shafts have to be connected to each other. They are particularly suitable for use with high torques and under severe conditions.

    Operating principle of rigid couplings

A non-positive shaft-hub connection guarantees reliable, zero backlash torque transmission even without an additional keyway. Low moments of inertia and exact balancing guarantee outstanding dynamic performance, even at high speeds. The couplings are basically wear-free and maintenance-free. The application possibilities range from demanding drive systems in general machine construction through applications in metrology and control technology to spindle and axle drives in machine tools. Additional typical applications are found in textile, packaging and wood-working machinery as well as industrial robots and multi-spindle drilling heads.

Advantages and properties of rigid couplings

Rigid couplings offer the mechanic the advantage of having high stability at high speeds. It is important that there are no shaft displacements or misalignments. Other advantages are:

    • High torsional stiffness with dynamic load changes
    • A low moment of inertia
    • True angular power transmission
    • A high temperature resistance
    • No vibration-induced loosening of screws
    • Low wear (low maintenance)

Rigid couplings from norelem can withstand a speed of 4000 rpm and be used in a temperature range from -40°C to +175°C. Rigid couplings are available in one-piece and two-piece versions. The two-piece version is also known as a clamped coupling. All norelem couplings are available in steel and stainless steel. Rigid couplings with a hole for shaft diameters from Ø8 mm to Ø50 mm are available as a standard version. 23050 is the coupling in the slotted version and 23052 in the split version. Both variants are very robust and durable. The one-piece rigid coupling completely encloses the shaft without damaging it and thus offers a high torsional force. The split coupling can even be fitted when both ends of the shaft are in a final position (the coupling can no longer be pushed on).

    Application sectors of rigid couplings

Rigid couplings are mainly used in material handling, the packaging industry, machine construction, semiconductor research or in the automobile industry. They are also used in the following application sectors:

    • Special machine construction
    • Metrology systems
    • Machine tools
    • Purification technology
    • Airlock technology
    • Textile industry
    • Foodstuff industry
